Schwannoma

A Schwannoma involving the nerve root of the spinal chord. The image on the right shows the microscopic appearance of the spinal tumor.

Schwannoma: Abnormal growth of schwann cell myelin covering the peripheral nerves results in this tumor. The eighth cranial nerve (auditory) is a common site. Virtually all schwannomas affect sensory neurons.
