Oligodendroglioma

The CT image on the left shows the calcification characteristic of oligodendroglioma. The image on the right shows a very large tumor involving both frontal lobes. Note how the tumor appears to have originated in the white matter and has infiltrated toward the cortex.

This image shows the microscopic appearance of the oligodendroglioma. The image on the left shows the mucousal microcysts that may form in the tumor. The image on the right shows the calcification characteristic of oligodendroglioma.

Oligodendroglioma: This tumor involves the abnormal growth of oligodendrocytes, a glial support cell. They probably arise within the white matter and infiltrate toward the cortex. Calcification of the microvasculature is extremely common.
