Arteriolar Sclerosis
and Lacunar Infarcts: Sustained elevations of blood pressure result
in progressive deterioration and "hardening" of the walls of small arteries.
This process may weaken the artery wall, resulting in an aneurysm and
eventual hemorrhage. Small hemorrhages and infarcted areas resulting from
this process are called "lacunar infarcts".
