Arteriolar Sclerosis

This image depicts the deterioration of arteries, called Arteriolar Sclerosis or Fibrinoid Necrosis.

Arteriolar Sclerosis and Lacunar Infarcts: Sustained elevations of blood pressure result in progressive deterioration and "hardening" of the walls of small arteries. This process may weaken the artery wall, resulting in an aneurysm and eventual hemorrhage. Small hemorrhages and infarcted areas resulting from this process are called "lacunar infarcts".
