Brainstem:
Dorsal View

Dorsal View
of the Brainstem
This is a view of the brainstem with the cerebellum removed. Revealed
is the floor of the fourth ventricle, on either side of which are
the cerebellar peduncles which connect the cerebellum to the brain
stem. The fourth ventricle narrows to form the aqueduct of Sylvius,
or cerebral aqueduct, that runs through the midbrain to the third
ventricle. Above this aqueduct lie the colliculi. The trochlear
cranial nerve (IV) exits the midbrain on the dorsal surface just
below the colliculi (the only cranial nerve to exit on this side).
